Clumsy Words
No words are right for saying this, so clumsy communication will have to suffice.
Anja (rhymes with Tonya) Miller (18) died instantly in a car accident around noon today. She was the only daughter and youngest child of LaVerne and Rebecca. LaVerne is the deacon at Center, our church. LaVerne and Rebecca are my age-mates and dear friends. For most of our lives, we've been neighbors, and Anja was one of my composition students.
Brothers are John (at home), Loyal (married to Arlene), Craig (married to Rachel), and Floyd (married to Dorcas).
The driver of the vehicle that collided with Anja's vehicle has close ties to many in our community also, so there is regret on many fronts for this tragic event. The driver had run through a stop sign and hit Anja's vehicle on the driver's side. The accident happened at W. 4th and Herren Road.
Anja was homeschooled, but she took a number of classes at the high school, and had gone with the Spanish class to Guatemala this past spring.
As Mr. Schrock reminded us today after the word came to the high school, this accident was not a tragedy for Anja. She is rejoicing now. For us though, it will take a long time before that's the predominant emotion.
